Category equivalence

In international marketing research, it is critical to establish equivalence of scales used to obtain data from different countries. In this regard category equivalence refers to the category in which stimuli like products, brands, advertisements, and behaviours are grouped. For example, in one country, the category of the principal
shopper may be defined as either the male or female head of household. This category may be inappropriate in countries where a domestic servant does routine daily shopping.
