Export management company (EMC)
A company that buys merchandise from manufacturers for international distribution or sometimes acts as an agent for manufacturers. The EMC’s primary function is to obtain orders for its client’s products through the selection of appropriate markets, distribution channels, and promotion campaigns. It collects analyzes, and furnishes credit information, and advice regarding foreign accounts and payment terms. The EMC also may handle documentation, arrange transportation, setup patent and trademark protection in foreign countries, and counsel and assist in establishing alternative forms of doing business, such as licensing or joint ventures.
