Decision as to whether it is less expensive to manufacture a product, a part, an assembly, or buy it from an outside supplier. In the recent past, large companies would try to manufacture every component in a product because it gave them complete control over every aspect of an operation. Now, many companies are finding it less expensive to outsource that is to obtain parts, assemblies, and entire products from other suppliers.
