Palming off

A form of deceitful diversion of patronage that a retailer does. Palming off occurs when a retailer represents merchandise as being made by a firm other than the true manufacturer. For example, an apparel retailer purchases some apparels from a local manufacturer and replaces their labels with those of a top designer.
