Factor analysis

A body of techniques concerned with the study of interrelationships among a set of variables, none of which is given the special status of a criterion variable. Researchers can use factor analysis for two primary functions. One is to identify underlying constructs in the data. The second role of factor analysis is to reduce the number of variables to a more manageable set. The two most commonly employed factor analytic techniques in marketing applications are principal component and common factor analysis.
