Positive reinforcement

The term is used in the context of instrumental conditioning learning theory. It is a form of reward, the response is strengthened and appropriate behavior is learned. For example, a woman who gets compliments after using a particular brand of perfume will learn that using this product has the desired effect, and she will be more likely to keep buying the same product.
