Self-perception theory

An alternative (to cognitive dissonance) explanation of dissonance effects; it assumes that people use observations of their own behavior to infer their attitudes toward some object. This theory states that people maintain consistency by inferring that they must have a positive attitude toward an object if they have bought or consumed it.
