A priori contrasts

It is one of the types of contrasts used in analysis of variance in examining the overall differences in means with reference to the null hypothesis. These contrasts are determined before conducting the analysis, based on the researcher’s theoretical framework. Generally, a priory contrasts are used in lieu of the ANNOVA F test. The contrasts selected are orthogonal (they are independent in a statistical sense).
